Jennifer Leos

Clinical Nurse Informaticist
Jennifer joined the UCSF health informatics group 5 years ago as a clinical nurse informaticist. She is a DEI champion and has over 25 years of health care experience in multiple settings in nursing, nursing informatics consulting, public health, and is a clinical nurse informaticist & DEI Champion at UCSF.
Before coming to UCSF, she worked in various roles staying active in healthcare technology, continuous process improvements and worked in roles such as various independent informatics consultant roles, Director of Care Coordination public health nurse (PHN) in a federally qualified clinic system (FQC) leading a team for promoting access for specialized care needs for underserved populations and co-designed a custom referral tracking and screening integrated dashboard for health IT quality improvements to achieve Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) certification while improving preventive health in underserved communities.
At the Center of Global Health Nursing, Jennifer has participated as a facilitator for the CGN Introduction to Cultural Humility Course. Jennifer is also member of the Clinical Systems, Health Informatics Antiracism committee and designed the “Incorporating Cultural Humility Principles in Clinical System Workflow Designs” workshop & high-risk areas resource document that is in use now for nursing informatics cohorts and is expanding to an upcoming article in JIN (Journal of Informatics Nursing) to influence changing the way we think of drivers and impacts in clinical system designs to remove biases, barriers and promote health equity thinking in patient and staff system touchpoints. Her first introduction to global health was when she was a Navy hospital corpsman and served in humanitarian deployments in Lativa, Iraq and Sardinia.
She holds a Bachelors in Nursing and a Masters in Nursing Informatics; ANCC board certified in Nursing informatics, Certified Professional in Health Information Systems by HIMSS, a California certified public health nurse, holds a Certificate for DEI for organizational Excellence Program and has a passion for collaborating for change and influencing for health equity in all areas of healthcare.
