About Us

The UCSF Center for Global Nursing (CGN) was established in 2022 at the Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) in partnership with the UCSF School of Nursing (SON) and the UCSF Health Department of Nursing (UCSF Health) to bring together those with expertise and interest in global health sciences from across UCSF with their global partners.

Our Mission

CGN’s mission is to engage nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), faculty and students in global health sciences through education, partnerships and research. Its aim is to foster collaboration, facilitate learning and encourage contributions towards finding solutions for global health challenges.

CGN is unique in its approach to advancing global nursing, bringing together the resources, skills and expertise of the Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS), the School of Nursing (SON) and UCSF Health.

Who We Are

The Center for Global Nursing serves as a hub for a diverse group of nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), faculty, staff and nursing students, collaborating with global partners.

  • At UCSF, the term "APP" includes a variety of advanced practice professionals, such as certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants (PA) and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs).

Our Community

CGN's broader community is open to all clinical nurses, APPs, nursing leaders, nursing faculty, nurse researchers and nursing students interested or engaged in the field of global health sciences. Our community upholds a desire to improve global health and CGN aims to foster collaboration, facilitate learning and support initiatives working towards global health solutions.

CGN's UCSF members are united by their interest and engagement in global health research, education and collaborative initiatives. Our members possess competencies in global health sciences and cultural humility, and they are enthusiastic about continuing to partner on global health initiatives.
