UCSF's Center for Global Nursing (CGN) Aims

Serve as the central hub for all nursing research, education and programming in the field of global health sciences at UCSF.
Build pathways and cultivate opportunities for UCSF nurses and APPs to engage in global health initiatives under our three pillars of education, partnership and research.
Increase global nursing and interdisciplinary collaborations at the IGHS and worldwide.
Provide advocacy for nursing and APPs across the globe through meaningful collaboration and partnership.

Global Action in Nursing (GAIN)

Founded in 2017, GAIN is a women- and nurse-led program making significant strides in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality through nursing education and mentorship worldwide.

Led by member, Kim Baltzell PhD, MS, RN, GAIN operates in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Malawi, and Memphis, Tennessee, with a mission to prevent complications and maternal and infant deaths during childbirth. This is achieved by increasing the number of nurses and midwives and providing clinical and leadership training to those working in high-risk communities.
