The UCSF Center for Global Nursing is proud to share an early look at our 2026 Clinical Global Scholars, their nurse-led quality improvement projects, and the program’s focus on leadership development, bidirectional learning, and global collaboration.
Following completion of the 12-week Certificate in Global Nursing, 20 Clinical Global Scholars from UCSF Health and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) came together in Eldoret, Kenya, for a two-week immersive experience focused on quality improvement, clinical collaboration, bidirectional learning, and A3 project development.
This marks an important milestone in the Scholars’ journey, but their work is far from complete. Building on the Certificate program and their time together in Kenya, the Scholars are now actively implementing 11 nurse-led quality improvement projects across UCSF Health and MTRH. These projects address a wide range of health system priorities, from neonatal thermoregulation and neurocritical care to CLABSI prevention, mental health follow-up, and Basic Life Support preparedness.
At this stage in the program, Scholars have reflected on growth in their quality improvement expertise, leadership, professional identity, and cultural humility, as well as greater confidence in engaging stakeholders and leading change. Their reflections highlight how equitable partnerships, reciprocal learning, and cross-cultural collaboration can strengthen nursing practice, health systems, and patient care.
The learning and collaboration also continue well beyond the immersion in Kenya. UCSF Health nurses, nurse leaders, and advanced practice providers continue to dedicate their time and expertise alongside their MTRH partners as the Scholars move their projects from planning into implementation and evaluation. This ongoing work is supported through monthly cohort coaching, mentorship, shared learning, and continued collaboration across institutions.
We are grateful to our Scholars, partners, faculty, and leaders for their continued dedication to strengthening nursing leadership, patient care, and global collaboration.
And this is only one part of their journey. Over the coming months, we look forward to sharing more as the Scholars implement, evaluate, and learn from their projects. We invite you to follow along as these nurse-led initiatives continue to take shape and as our Scholars translate shared learning into meaningful change in their health systems.
