CGN's Internship Program

The Global Nursing Internship Program aims to create meaningful opportunities for nursing and advanced practice students, students interested in nursing, and/or those pursuing advanced practice to engage in a collaborative project with a global partner. This program offers an excellent opportunity to explore the intersection of global health sciences and the nursing profession while gaining practical experience working with global partners to advance the field of nursing across the globe.

Who Should Apply

The Global Nursing Scholars Program is ideal for individuals interested in a career in global nursing or advanced practice. Eligible applicants include:

  • Nursing and advanced practice provider (APP) students who are in the final year of their bachelor’s program or are currently enrolled in graduate studies
  • Early-career nurses and APPs
  • Passionate about advancing health equity, strengthening the global nursing workforce, and promoting nurse leadership
  • This program is especially suited for those eager to develop skills in research and quality improvement (QI)

Internship Period

9-mo (with potential to extend to 12-mo), with an expected commitment of 5 hours per week (minimum).

Key Activities

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct literature reviews on relevant nursing, public health, or global health topics.
  • Analyze existing frameworks, programs, or curricula related to the internship focus area (e.g., perioperative nursing, capacity building, etc.).
  • Synthesize findings into written briefings, manuscripts, and/or presentations for the CGN team.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the CGN team and partners.
  • Assist in organizing or facilitating stakeholder interviews, focus groups, or workshops.
  • Ensure alignment of project deliverables with stakeholder needs and CGN goals.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain thorough documentation of project processes, meeting minutes, and next steps.
  • Prepare visual and written materials (e.g., slide decks, manuscripts, summary reports) to communicate project outcomes.
